A Roswell man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after being convicted of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend, Domonique Gonzales, 34, in June 2021 at a residence in the 400 block of East Forest Street.

As part of a plea agreement with the district attorney’s office, Christopher Beltran, 27, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder (a reduction from the original charge of first-degree murder that resulted after the RPD investigation). He was sentenced to 15 years for that crime, plus four years for being a habitual offender and one year as a result of a firearm enhancement (since a gun was used in the crime). That resulted in a total sentence of 20 years, but eight years were suspended, leaving Beltran 12 years to serve, under the plea agreement approved Feb. 17 by a district judge. Also under the agreement, the prosecution dismissed charges of tampering with evidence and felon in possession of a firearm.
