Clovis Municipal Schools (CMS) recently engaged with state legislators in Santa Fe to promote its grow-your-own educator initiatives. Mandy Carpenter, Executive Director for Talent Management & Development at CMS, spearheaded the advocacy efforts. The district has implemented programs such as university partnerships and the Ed Fellowship program to address teacher development and retention.

The success of these initiatives is evident as CMS currently has no open K-12 teaching positions and a robust applicant pool ready for the Spring semester. These outcomes highlight the effectiveness of their educator development strategies.

Carpenter worked alongside Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) leadership to emphasize the positive results of their Teacher Residency program, which prepares future educators for classroom roles.

CMS's educator programs boast over 15 university partnerships, 17 student teachers graduating this May, and 60 Ed Fellow Educational Assistants pursuing degrees in various education fields.

Clovis Municipal Schools continues to focus on innovative solutions to teacher shortages while creating sustainable career paths for future educators.
