City Manager Chad Cole has appointed Bobbi Thompson as the new director of the Roswell Air Center. Ms. Thompson had been serving in an interim capacity since October.

The City conducted a thorough recruitment process over several months, receiving 25 applications from across the United States, Canada, and Sri Lanka. After multiple interviews, City Manager Cole concluded that Ms. Thompson was the most suitable candidate for the position.

Ms. Thompson's career spans more than 35 years in airport management and aviation consulting, positioning her as a highly qualified candidate. Her national and international experience with airports and air shows is expected to be vital for the future development of Roswell Air Center and the success of the National Championship Air Races set to debut in Roswell this September.

Thompson has served on the Board of Directors for the National Championship Air Races for several years and was part of the site-selection committee that chose Roswell as their new location. She is also involved with various organizations, including being a board member for the International Council of Air Shows (ICAS) Foundation and a member of its Safety Committee. In 2023, she received the ICAS Sword of Excellence award for outstanding achievements in the air show industry. Additionally, Thompson is a multi-engine pilot, former race pilot, and holds a world record for speed over a defined course.
