Clovis Municipal Schools (CMS) has announced a two-hour delay for Thursday, February 20, 2025, due to extreme cold weather conditions. The decision follows a Cold Weather Advisory from the National Weather Service predicting wind chills ranging from zero to minus ten degrees. "Wind chills as low as five below zero could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken," stated the advisory.

The delay aims to protect students who may have to walk over a mile or wait at bus stops by allowing time for temperatures to improve. It also ensures school buildings are ready to accommodate students and staff.

All school start times will be pushed forward by two hours, and morning bus pick-up times will follow suit. For example, a bus scheduled for 7:00 a.m. will now arrive at 9:00 a.m. Students usually dropped off at 7:30 a.m. should arrive at 9:30 a.m. Additionally, the A.M. 3Y Preschool session is canceled due to the delayed schedule. Breakfast and lunch services will proceed as usual.

Families are advised to dress their children in warm layers, including hats, gloves, and scarves, to guard against the cold.

For district staff, maintenance and custodial personnel must report at their regular time to prepare facilities for entry. District administrators and supervisors should report within 45 minutes of their normal start time to ensure staff presence in case students arrive early. All other district employees are expected according to the two-hour delay schedule.

Further information about inclement weather procedures can be found on the CMS website or through its social media channels.
