A Roswell Police Department investigation into the fatal shooting of a man this morning (Monday, Jan. 23) has determined the man’s wife shot him in self-defense as the man beat her and threatened to kill her.
The incident involving Brian Jaramillo, 42, and his wife, also 42, occurred inside a back room of KB Glass and Windows, a west Roswell business owned by the couple, in Monterey Plaza in the 1400 block of West Second Street. When RPD officers were called to the scene at 8 a.m., they found the woman sitting in front of the business. She was holding a handgun, but let go of it and was detained by officers.
Inside the business, the body of Brian Jaramillo was lying in the back room. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police responded to the shopping plaza after a man outside a nearby business in the plaza called 911 to report a woman, later determined to be Brian Jaramillo’s wife, had walked up to him with a gun in her hand saying she needed help. The woman then walked back to the front of KB Glass and Windows.
Investigators with the RPD Criminal Investigations Division determined the couple got into an argument Sunday night (Jan. 22) at their home in Carrizozo. The woman left the residence and came to Roswell and spent the night at the couple’s business. Brian Jaramillo showed up at the business Monday morning and started beating his wife and threatening to kill her, the investigation found. The investigation determined the wife used a gun she owns to shoot Brian Jaramillo in self-defense. No one else was in the business when this incident occurred.
RPD has released the woman and does not plan to file charges against her. The RPD report regarding this incident will be sent to the district attorney’s office, which will make its own decision regarding any charges related to this incident.
