Eight of the Roswell Police Department's newest officers were among the officers who graduated from the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy in Santa Fe Tuesday (Nov. 15). Several RPD supervisors and other officers were on hand for the ceremony. Left to right, Deputy Chief Alberto Aldana, K9 Officer Joel Juarez, K9 Officer Cody Schwartz, K9 Officer Ashley Wood, K9 Sergeant Jeff Prince, (graduates Patrick Silvas, Steven Willis, Bryan Barela, Domicio Morales, Miguel Nunez, Christopher Stanza, Luis Cardiel and Bianca Gonzales), Lieutenant Christopher Bradley, Training Officer Trong Nguyen, and Sergeant Trevis Reese.
The latest academy graduates from RPD and other agencies throughout the state are now fully certified New Mexico law enforcement officers. The officers had nearly four months of training during which each completed police-officer course work on topics such as state and federal case law, crisis resolution, ethics, community policing and many other areas of study. During the academy, each cadet also was tested physically, running many miles and completing what probably seemed like innumerable push-ups, sit-ups and other exercises and challenges.
Officer Steven Willis earned the academic achievement award for having the overall top grade in the graduating class.
Congratulations to Roswell’s newest certified law enforcement officers! We are glad to have them on our team to protect and serve our community!
