Clovis Community College issued the following announcement on Oct. 29.
This week, in celebration of National Disability Awareness month, Clovis Community College Disabled Students Programs and Services collaborated with the Student Activities Center to host an Ability Awareness Fair. Devein Puente, a counselor from the Department of Rehabilitation was invited to present.
The Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) is a California based agency that assists individuals with physical, mental health, and/or emotional disabilities in finding gainful employment.
"DOR is a hidden treasure that many people are unaware of." said Devein Puente.
DOR develops a tailored Individualized Plan of Employment for each client. This includes developing vocational goals, resumes, interviewing skills, and the agency also provides 90-day on-the-job support.
DOR can assist clients with vouchers for various needs such as books, bus tokens, gas cards, personal assistive devices, and much more depending on the students qualifying condition and needs.
After the success of this event, with over 20 people in attendance, CCC DSP&S looks forward to continuing to collaborate with DOR to support DSP&S students from college completion to employment attainment.
