Clovis Municipal Schools has identified recent reports of online threats as being tied to recent Situational Advisories issued by the Department of Homeland Security and, through investigation with law enforcement, has deemed these reports to be non-credible at this time.

Last week, Homeland Security issued advisories throughout the state of New Mexico regarding online threats circulating through social media channels and being reported to schools around the state.

Today, Clovis Schools received similar reports, and a subsequent investigation revealed that these reports are associated with the larger trend and not credibly tied to the local community or schools.

There has been no interruption to instruction during these investigations, and instruction is ongoing as scheduled at all campuses.

"We would like to assure our families, staff and students that we take all reports seriously and investigate each report with the assistance of our partners in law enforcement. We also realize that not all reports are credible and often the added speed and pervasiveness of social media can elevate concerns – requiring a delicate balance to ensure safety while also ensuring the educational process is not plagued by unnecessary interruptions and anxiety."

With this in mind, Clovis Municipal Schools is committed to investigating all reports with equal seriousness and maintaining open communication with schools, families, and the community.

"Anyone who believes they have information about a threat to school safety is encouraged to report their concerns to school staff or law enforcement so that an investigation can be conducted. As schools and law enforcement adjust to the new dynamics we all face regarding online posting and viral content sharing, those concerns that are linked to state and national trends are becoming easier to identify and address, allowing us to continue the mission of education with minimal interruptions."

The district remains committed to providing a safe and productive learning environment for children in the community. They value community investment in helping keep schools safe so they can continue serving as thriving educational centers for children.
