With winter weather approaching, Clovis Municipal Schools has outlined its procedures for dealing with inclement weather. The guidelines are designed to keep families and staff informed about potential school delays, remote learning days, or cancellations.

The district may implement a Remote Learning Day if severe weather is expected. In such cases, advance notification will be provided the evening before when possible. Students will take devices home, and teachers will prepare remote lessons. "Students log in at the usual time; attendance will be taken," according to the district's announcement. All staff are expected to report remotely.

In situations where a Delayed Start is necessary, schools may open 1, 2, or 3 hours later than usual to allow time for road clearing and temperature changes. The adjusted start time requires adding the delay to the usual bus, walk, or drop-off time. District administrators and supervisors must report within 45 minutes of their usual time; cafeteria staff should report at 7:30 AM, while all other staff follow the delayed schedule. Breakfast and lunch will still be served on these days.

School Cancellation will occur when conditions make travel unsafe. Announcements regarding cancellations are made by 6:00 AM. On such days, students and staff do not report to school, but maintenance staff receive specific instructions from supervisors. All school events and sports are canceled.

If severe weather develops during the school day or an emergency arises, Early Dismissal may be implemented with announcements made by 11:30 AM. Students who ride buses will be transported home early under these circumstances.

To ensure everyone stays informed of any schedule changes due to weather conditions, notifications will be sent via automated calls, texts, and emails to primary custodial contacts listed in Skyward Family Access. Families are encouraged to verify their contact information in Skyward under "Student Info" to ensure they receive these notifications promptly.

Updates can also be found online on the district's website as well as on Facebook and Instagram pages. Local news sources like Eastern New Mexico News along with local radio and regional TV stations will provide additional updates.
