The process of transitioning into Preschool with the Clovis School District has been outlined in a detailed timeline for parents and guardians.

According to Jessie Riley from Student Support Services, for any questions regarding the transition process, individuals can contact her at 575-769-4490.

The timeline begins with a referral being sent to the school indicating that a child may need Developmental Preschool due to a developmental delay or medical condition. This initiates the setting of a meeting time and date.

A Transition Meeting is then scheduled by the FIT provider 90 days before the child's 3rd birthday with the public schools. During this meeting, the team discusses the need for special education testing.

Subsequently, the child undergoes vision and hearing screenings conducted by a school nurse, and the family is required to complete an enrollment application, providing necessary documents such as shot records, Social Security Card, Birth Certificate, and proof of address.

An evaluator or team of evaluators then contacts the family to set up testing at Clovis Schools as requested during the transition meeting.

Following the testing, an Eligibility Determination Meeting is held with the school's team, the child's family, and the FIT team to review the results and ascertain if the child qualifies for special education services under IDEA.

If the child is deemed eligible, an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is developed to provide tailored support within the school setting. Alternatively, if the student is not eligible, a list of resources, including the peer program with the public schools, can be provided.

Current or new families are encouraged to scan the QR code on the flyer for additional resources and information related to the preschool transition process within the Clovis School District.
