UPDATE: The gun-carrying student has been charged with unlawful carrying of a deadly weapon on school premises, unlawful carrying of a deadly weapon (by a minor), and disrupting the educational process. He was booked into a juvenile detention facility.

A 16-year-old male student was found to be carrying a gun in Roswell High School this morning (Wednesday, Jan. 4). Other students became aware of the gun and reported the situation to a teacher. The suspect student was detained by an RPD school resource officer and school security. A brief lockdown occurred and the school was searched for any additional weapons. None was found. School administrators then decided to send students home for the day. The suspect student was taken to the police department and questioned. Charges are pending.
