UPDATE ON CIENEGITA FIRE, SUNDAY, JUNE 5, 2022 @ 6:00 P.M.
The Cienegita Fire is at 37 acres with 25% containment. The fire made upslope runs yesterday due to roll out across control lines, steep slopes, dry fuels, and winds. Firefighter safety is a priority in this steep and rough terrain.
Multiple airtanker retardant drops halted the fire's forward spread yesterday and contained spot fires ahead of the main fire. Smokey Bear Interagency Hotshot Crew (IHC) and Idaho City IHC are on the fire constructing handline. Lone Peak will be flown up to the fire in the morning to assist. Crews are actively lining the main fires edge and mopping up spot fires with helicopter water drop support.
Suppression Resources Include: 3 IHC Crews, 1 Type 3 helicopter, 1 Type 2 helicopter, 2 Type 1 helicopters, Pecos Zone Type III Team, and miscellaneous overhead. Air Attack and Airtankers are available to assist as the need arises.
This has been a multiple interagency effort to suppress the Cienegita fire. Appreciation to all agencies involved in the continued suppression effort.
The Mescalero Apache Indian Reservation remains under Class V / Stage III Closure.
