The Clovis Municipal Schools choral program recently participated in the Southeastern New Mexico Music Educators Association’s Choral Large Group Music Performance Assessment, held in Hobbs on March 4-5, 2025. Choirs from Yucca Middle School, Gattis Middle School, Clovis High School Freshman Academy (CHSFA), and Clovis High School (CHS) were evaluated in Concert Performance and Sight Reading.
Out of ten participating choirs from Clovis, nine achieved "Superior" ratings in both categories. One choir received a "Superior" in Sight Reading and an "Excellent" in Concert Performance. Four choirs qualified for the New Mexico Activities Association State Choir Contest on April 4-5.
Choirs receiving Superior ratings in both categories and qualifying for the state contest include Gattis Middle School Treble Choir, Yucca Middle School Treble Choir, CHS Women’s Select Choir, and CHS Chamber Choir. Other choirs achieving Superior ratings include Gattis Middle School Tenor/Bass Choir, CHSFA Treble Choir, CHSFA Tenor/Bass Choir, CHS Mixed Chorale, and CHS Tenor/Bass Choir. The Yucca Middle School Tenor/Bass Choir earned a Superior rating in Sight Reading and Excellent in Concert Performance.
The success of these students is attributed to their hard work and dedication along with support from the CMS Administration and the CMS School board. Gratitude was extended by the choral directors to all who contributed to this achievement.
Directors involved include Lori Riggins at Gattis Middle School; Seth Baldock and James Golden at Yucca Middle School; James Golden and Zach McAlister at CHSFA; Tami Martin and Sarah Sena at Clovis High School.
