The City of Roswell has announced the receipt of a grant aimed at assisting with the cost of spaying and neutering pets. This program provides low-cost vouchers to help residents take responsible steps in controlling the pet population.
"By participating, you are not only ensuring the health and well-being of your pet but also contributing to a broader effort to reduce the number of stray animals in our city," stated a city representative. The initiative aims to create a healthier environment for all.
Eligibility criteria include residency within Roswell, New Mexico, pets being at least 8 weeks old and weighing at least 3 lbs, proof of Rabies, DHPP or FVRCP vaccinations from a veterinarian prior to applying, and microchipping with registration through an official ISO registrar.
Health benefits cited by the city include longer life spans for pets, reduced cancer risks, decreased likelihood of marking territory, fewer behavior problems due to absence of testosterone, lower long-term costs for owners, and reduced tendency for pets to escape and roam.
Applications can be submitted via email to s.mairot@roswell-nm.gov or in person at Roswell Animal Services. For further information or assistance with applications, residents can call 575-624-6722 or visit the Roswell Animal Services webpage.
The City mandates that all dogs and cats six months and older must be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and have a registered microchip as per ordinances (Sec. 4-51). These regulations aim to control overpopulation and disease spread among animals in Roswell.
