A single-vehicle rollover accident Thursday evening (Jan. 19) in north Roswell resulted in the death of an 81-year-old local man who was the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle.
First-responders found Jose Nicacio Sisneros inside the overturned car, a Jaguar XJS, when they were called to the accident scene on West Berrendo Road near the intersection with Coronado Road about 6:45 p.m. Medical personnel determined Sisneros to be deceased.
The Roswell Police Department’s investigation of the accident remains ongoing, but certain initial determinations have been made. Based on investigation at the scene Thursday, it is believed the car was traveling at a speed of at least 100 mph at the time of the accident. The investigation has determined Sisneros was driving the car westbound on West Berrendo Road when it left the roadway multiple times. The final time, the car appears to have gone onto the north-side shoulder, then crossed back across the road striking a fence post and going airborne over a drainage ditch before striking a wood-and-stone fence and rolling approximately three times, coming to rest on its roof in the south-side shoulder of West Berrendo Road.
Bottles containing alcoholic beverages were found in and around the car. Further investigation, including findings from an autopsy of Sisneros, will determine if alcohol was a factor in the accident.
