During National Forensic Science Week (Sept. 18-24), the Roswell Police Department wants to recognize its Technical Services Unit (TSU). TSU currently has four civilian crime scene technicians. A technician’s primary responsibility is crime-scene processing. This includes detailed photographs, dusting for fingerprints, collecting DNA samples and analyzing blood patterns. Beyond the crime scene, technicians are trained in phone extractions, video enhancement, advanced fingerprint processing, fingerprint comparisons and more. TSU will respond to major crime scenes including homicides, shootings, stabbings and drive-by shootings. TSU also assists in evidence collection and processing of other crimes including burglaries, criminal damages and stolen vehicles.
In addition to their normal duties and being on call, our technicians are very active in the community. They have done presentations at schools, assisted in National Night Out, and will be part of the department's upcoming trunk-or-treat event.
