The Roswell Police Department responded to Goddard High School this morning with a large Police presence in reference a “threat of a school shooting”. The FBI notified the Roswell Police Department yesterday evening (Thursday 9/1/22), that they had received a “tip” via the “FBI National Threat Operations Center” that there was a possible threat of a school shooting at Goddard High School. When these tips are received, they are taken extremely serious. The information provided by the tipster did not give any specific information regarding an actual threat of a shooting but the information did warrant our attention. This morning we were able to identify the student that was the cause for our concerns. The Roswell Police Department School Resource Officers located the student, a juvenile female, inside of the school and detained her without incident. The student was not in possession of any firearms. The student was transported to the police department for questioning. The student’s parents also responded to the Police Department and were very cooperative with our investigation. As a result of this incident there are no charges pending at this time.
The safety of the schools and the community remains a top priority for the Roswell Police Department. Anyone with information regarding a threat of violence towards our schools is encouraged to report it immediately. The information can reported to a Teacher, Principal, Staff member, School Security, or Police. The Roswell Police Department phone number is (575) 624-6770 or in the event of an emergency call 911.
