Roswell Police Department investigators have identified a male subject believed to be responsible for a string of vehicle burglaries that occurred this week. The subject was arrested Wednesday (June 29) on unrelated warrants and police are now asking for the public’s assistance as they build the vehicle-burglary case.
Anyone who recently had a vehicle burglarized – with items stolen or rummaged through – is asked to call RPD (575-624-6770) to report the incident if they have not done so already. RPD also requests a call from any resident who has video surveillance of any recent vehicle burglaries being committed.
RPD is aware of about 10 nighttime vehicle burglaries that occurred between June 26 and June 29, mostly in the north part of Roswell, but including one or two others in other parts of the city. These incidents involved the burglar entering vehicles he found to be unlocked. (Citizens are reminded to make sure they lock their vehicles.) Investigators believe all of these burglaries can likely be connected to the suspect taken into custody Wednesday. It is also believed this same person, who is from Midland, Texas, committed additional vehicle burglaries in Roswell.
The investigation obtained video surveillance showing the suspect had been driving a stolen dark-colored KIA SUV. An RPD officer located the vehicle Wednesday morning at the Belmont Motel in the 2100 block of West Second Street. The suspect was located in one of the motel rooms and was arrested on vehicle-burglary warrants from two other New Mexico counties. He has not yet been charged in connection with the Roswell vehicle burglaries, but is expected to be eventually.
Anyone with information that may be related to or otherwise assist in the investigation of this case is asked to call the Roswell Police Department at (575) 624-6770.
