Of the 1,356 people living in Capitan in 2020, 48.2 percent (653) were women and 51.8 percent (703) were men, according to U.S. Census Bureau data obtained by the East New Mexico News.

Males 18 and over outnumbered females in the same age group by 73. In the 65 and over age range, there were 227 females and 131 males.
