Chaves County issued the following announcement on March 28.
Breaking News: Chaves County Sheriffs Deputies have been involved in an officer involved shooting in south Chaves County.
Deputies where on scene of the 100 block of East Jackson Rd (near Lake Arthur) with a possible suicidal subject, while on scene officer called out shots fired, and immediately called for the medics to respond.
Deputies stated they were all ok, and had already started administering medical treatment to a subject that was shot. A helicopter was initially called, but that and other responding medical units where cancelled (it is believed that the subject died).
There is very little information at this time, but we are working on more details.
