It’s not yet clear when businesses should be allowed to reopen in the U.S., and people have different opinions on this. Some residents and business owners in southeast New Mexico are saying the time is now, while authorities are reluctant to confirm if these actions pose any threats.
Roswell Mayor Dennis Kintigh is among the people who are looking for options of re-opening businesses safely in New Mexico as early as May. According to Kintigh, taking precautions such as maintaining social distance will have to be kept in mind.
Speaking to KRQE News, Kintigh mentioned that these steps depend on how COVID-19 has impacted each area.
"We need to start the discussion on how to reopen this area and parts of New Mexico that have not been crippled," he told KRQE News. "The areas that are hit hard? Yes, deserves serious attention but one size does not fit all.”
