New Mexico Supreme Court orders extension on fees and fines for state courts

Gavel 1200x675

Those owing fines or fees to the state of New Mexico have been granted a 30-day reprieve in view of hardships brought about by the coronavirus pandemic.

An order has been issued by the state Supreme Court that will not only help residents who owe a fine but reduce traffic in state courthouses. Courts impacted include the magistrate, metropolitan, district or municipal. The extension does not impact those individuals who have past due amounts, but those with fees due from March 19 to May 29.

“We understand New Mexicans are facing financial difficulties during this public health emergency and providing more time to pay fines and fees will offer temporary relief,” Chief Justice Judith Nakamura told The Los Alamos Monitor Online.

Those with questions regarding their fine are encouraged to contact the court that has jurisdiction in their case. Those seeking additional information regarding scheduling or additional safety precautions regarding state courts can visit https://nmcourts.gov.
