The intersection of Main and Second streets will be closed for some time as RPD investigates an incident that occurred just after 9 a.m. today (Friday, May 6).
An officer was checking on the unresponsive male driver of a car stopped at the intersection. The driver suddenly accelerated the car, pinning the officer against another vehicle and then dragging him through the intersection.
The officer is being treated at a hospital and is expected to be okay. The driver is in custody.
Traffic is being detoured one block from the intersection, all directions.
