Clovis Municipal Schools has received a $20,000 grant from New Mexico's Outdoor Equity Fund, managed by the New Mexico Outdoor Recreation Division. This funding will support outdoor experiences for students in grades 3-12 over the next 12 to 18 months.
Activities planned include fishing, animal identification, and wildlife photography in eastern New Mexico. These events aim to enhance skills and connect career and technical education with real-world outdoor applications.
"Investing in these programs provides immediate benefits to youth and communities and also builds long-term economic opportunities in the outdoor recreation sector," said EDD Secretary-Designate Rob Black. "By empowering young people through these initiatives, we nurture New Mexico’s next generation of outdoor leaders and professionals."
The Outdoor Equity Fund program seeks to offer all New Mexico youth opportunities to explore nature regardless of their background. It aims to foster environmental responsibility and interest in careers related to conservation and the environment.
Clovis Municipal Schools looks forward to collaborating with the New Mexico Outdoor Recreation Division and other grant recipients across the state.
Joseph Williams, Safe and Healthy Schools Coordinator at Yucca Middle School, will administer the grant. For more information, contact him at Joseph.Williams@Clovis-schools.org.
