Clovis High names Corey Pickett as new head boys' basketball coach

Corey Pickett, Clovis Municipal Schools' Director of Fine Arts and a near-30-year veteran basketball coach, has been selected and accepted the position of head boys' basketball coach at Clovis High School.

Two years into his role as district fine arts director, Pickett will now also take on coaching responsibilities. He began his career with the district in 2001 as an art teacher at W.D. Gattis Middle School. Before joining the district, Pickett served as assistant and head girls' basketball coach at Clovis Christian School from 1997 until 2000. In 2000, he began coaching basketball, track, and volleyball at W.D. Gattis Middle School.

In 2009, Pickett transitioned to assistant boys' basketball coach at Clovis High School and continued in this role until 2017 when he was appointed head boys' basketball coach at Clovis Christian School. He returned to the Wildcat boys' basketball team as an assistant coach in 2020 and has remained with the team since then.

During this period, Pickett has also held various teaching and administrative positions within Clovis Schools. He moved from assistant principal at Clovis High School to his current position in 2022.

Pickett holds a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts from Eastern New Mexico University, a Master's Degree in Education from Eastern New Mexico University, and a Master's Degree in Fine Arts from Vermont College of Fine Arts.

Mr. Pickett will assume his new coaching position on July 1 following the departure of Joshua Mattox.
