Clovis High School physical education teacher and coach Garrick Sherrod has been selected for and accepted the position of Coordinator of Elementary Youth Programs.
A Norfolk native with a background in youth sports, Sherrod was first hired by Clovis Municipal Schools in 2022 as a secondary physical education teacher and assistant boys’ basketball coach, helping to lead the Wildcats through two seasons.
Prior to joining the district, Sherrod dedicated his time to youth athletics, working as a lead instructor for numerous sports camps, serving as a recreation coordinator for California’s Valley Wide Recreation, and serving as the assistant manager of Zhaire Smith Family Foundation, a youth charity located in Lubbock.
An athlete himself, while attending Eastern New Mexico University for his undergraduate work, Sherrod was a member of the Greyhounds Men’s Basketball Team from 2017 to 2022. Sherrod holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Eastern New Mexico University.
This position was created to support an expansion of elementary youth programs to encourage and increase opportunities for district elementary students to engage in activities that are tailored to their age-specific health and developmental needs. Sherrod will begin working in his new role over the summer in preparation for the start of school in August.
