Tara Gillins-Hubbard named principal at James Bickley Elementary School

Tara Gillins-Hubbard has been selected and accepted the position of Principal at James Bickley Elementary School. A New Jersey educator with over a decade of experience in elementary education, Gillins-Hubbard has focused on engaging and empowering marginalized students. She most recently served as a teacher for the Trenton Board of Education.

Recognized as the New Jersey Educator of the Year for 2022-2023, Gillins-Hubbard is noted for her leadership among peers and her efforts both in and out of the classroom. She has cultivated community and cultural enrichment through programs that engage students and the local community.

While working for the Trenton Board of Education, Gillins-Hubbard also served as an Education Component Supervisor for the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) from 2018 to 2021, supporting youth through educational programs. Additionally, she worked as College Site Director for Cooperman Scholars from 2015 to 2016, supporting and monitoring student success in the program. Prior to teaching, she was a Residential Supervisor at Oaks Integrated Care, aiding youth in reintegrating with their families following separation.

Gillins-Hubbard holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from The College of New Jersey and a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Rowan University.

The vacancy was created by the retirement of Kristi Hopper. Gillins-Hubbard will begin her new role over the summer in preparation for the start of school in August.
