City of Clovis issued the following announcement on Oct. 22.
The brush fire that sparked this afternoon just west of Highway 60-84 and CR N. has been contained and is under control. Surrounding roads were closed and residences evacuated with the help of the Clovis Police, Curry County Sheriff’s Office, and New Mexico State Police. Several entities were involved in the containment of the fire, including the Clovis Fire Department, Curry County Fire Marshall, Curry County Road Department, Clovis Public Works, Cannon Air Force Base, Texico Fire Department, Ranchville Fire Department, and numerous private construction companies who supplied water tankers. Approximately 200 acres were impacted by the fire. The impacted roads have now reopened, and residents have returned safely to their homes. The fire will continue to be maintained by the involved entities.
