Public’s help needed! On 11/21/22 at approximately 5:30pm, one of my Ruidoso Downs PD Officers was on a traffic stop on Highway 70 across from Craven’s Laundromat. My officer was exiting the patrol car to walk up to speak with the driver. When the officer opened the driver’s door an unknown vehicle, who failed to move to the inside lane, drove past the officer’s vehicle, hitting the driver’s door just as the officer was about to exit the patrol vehicle.
The suspect vehicle pulled over for approximately 30 seconds and then fled the scene eastbound on Highway 70 toward Hondo. The officer did not get a good look at the vehicle but believes it to be a small or midsized SUV, light in color, possibly light blue. It was hard to see due to darkness.
If anyone knows who the suspect is, they are encouraged to call Ruidoso Downs PD. The call can be anonymous. The vehicle likely has fresh damage to the front end of the vehicle, particularly on the right side. There will be black paint transfer from the police vehicle.
Thank Goodness the officer is not hurt.
