Portions of roads surrounding the Roswell Air Center will be closed during daytime hours for upcoming aviation events. The closures coincide with the National Championship Air Races, scheduled for September 10-14, and a preceding pilots certification event from September 6-9, which is not open to the public.
From September 6 through September 14, daily between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., several road segments will be inaccessible:
– Westbound Hobson Road at Sunset Road
– Westbound YO Road at Nashville Road
– Northbound Old YO Crossing Road at Pierre Road
Additionally, on the northeast side of the air center, East Hobson Road will be closed to general traffic from Earl Cummings Loop to U.S. 285 from September 10 to 14 during those same hours. This section will serve only air-race attendees traveling to and from event parking areas. Earl Cummings Loop will also be closed between the air-center terminal entrance and the air-races entrance near West Mathis Street.
General traffic will not be permitted in these areas while closures are in effect. Motorists are advised to plan alternate routes.
The Roswell Police Department and City of Roswell stated: “The Roswell Police Department and City of Roswell apologize for the inconvenience. These road closures are for the safety of the pilots, ground staff and public.”
Further details about the National Championship Air Races can be found at https://airrace.org/.
Airline passengers or others needing access to the air-center terminal during race days should use South Main Street, then proceed east on East Hobson Road before heading south on Earl Cummings Loop to reach terminal parking lots.
