As of 1pm Tuesday afternoon the Pecos River has peaked over its banks in many areas, but the overall spread inward towards Dexter, Lake Arthur and Hagerman is not as much as expected by this time today.
That does not mean the potential for a record breaking flood along the Pecos River isn’t possible.
After Heavy rains over multiple days all along the Eastern part of the state , the water is working it’s way down, but taking a bit slower then expected.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisor along the Pecos River from Ft Sumner to Brantley Lake just North of Carlsbad. They had still predicted (as of this morning) that the River could crest over 20ft breaking the record set in the historic flood of 1941.
We are continuing to monitor the River and it’s potential to cause severe flooding, and will update if anything changes.
