A District Court jury has convicted Manuel Villarreal of first-degree murder and two other criminal counts in the November 2020 shooting death of John Halfmann, 43.

The RPD investigation led to Villarreal’s arrest one week after the shooting. Halfmann was found in a shed in the 700 block of East Fifth Street after he had been shot.

In addition to the murder charge, Villarreal was also charged with, and convicted of, intimidation of a witness and felon in possession of a firearm. The convictions on the three counts came Thursday, March 23, at the end of a four-day trial. Sentencing is expected to take place in about a month.
