Chaves County issued the following announcement on April 8.
Crews are still working to knock out the flames at the fire near the Pecos River that was initially a controlled burn being conducted by BLM. The fire has kept everyone busy tonight. Long hours for some. Some residents had fire up to their houses. Luckily no structures burned so far. It’s straight up 3 am. We are all still working hard to contain this fire east of midway (Darby and Lincoln, Nancy Ann, Michelett) area. CCSO is also here with me to assist with some evacuations if needed. I’ll post some more pics later! Great job to all our Chaves County Fire Depts! This is an all county response tonight.
