Fatal Crash Update
Chaves County, NM – On May 11, 2022, at about 4:15 a.m., the New Mexico State Police was called to investigate a fatal head-on collision on U.S. 285 around milepost 85 south of Roswell, NM.
The initial investigation indicated that a 2008 Chevy Tahoe, driven by Alexa Renee Fox, 23, of Carlsbad, NM was traveling north on U.S. 285. For unknown reasons, the Tahoe crossed the center median and struck a southbound 2013 Ford F-550 head-on. Fox was killed in the collision and pronounced deceased on the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.
The driver of the Ford was transported to the hospital for injuries received in the crash. His condition is not known.
Seatbelts appear to have been properly worn in this crash which is under investigation by the New Mexico State Police.

Breaking News: Chaves County Emergency Units are arriving on scene of a two vehicle accident on US:285 with multiple victims which occurred just before 4am.
Sheriff’s deputies are now arriving and have located atleast 2 victims, one being trapped and needing extrication and the other is possibly deceased.
Medics are currently enroute to access the scene, medi-vac helicopters where ordered but the nearest one available is over an hour away located in Alamogordo.
Both lanes of travel along US:285 South (near the Dexter Turn) has been stopped at Ottawa Rd and will be closed for sometime. Seek alternative routes.
