Eunice Medicaid Evaluation and Management payments jump 86% to $58,593 in 2024

Eunice Medicaid providers recorded $58,593 in billings for Evaluation and Management services in 2024, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Medicaid Provider Spending database. This represented an 85.6% rise from 2023, when $31,564 in claims were reported for the same service group.

Medicaid is a state-administered public health insurance program financed through both federal and state funds. It provides coverage to low-income families and individuals, children, seniors, and people with disabilities, making it a significant component of the U.S. health care system.

Since taxpayer funding drives Medicaid payments, changes in the level of local billing reveal how a community’s public health care dollars are distributed.

The “Evaluation and Management” group covers a set of Medicaid-billed services classified by the nature of care given, using standardized HCPCS and CPT code groupings. Service categories for this report were assigned based on code prefixes and number ranges, eliminating double counting and ensuring consistent tracking over time.

Evaluation and Management was the leading Medicaid payment category in Eunice in 2024, despite increased spending across several service types.

On a statewide scale, Evaluation and Management ranked as the third largest Medicaid spending category in New Mexico for 2024.

Between 2019 and 2024, Eunice saw a $34,671 increase in Medicaid Evaluation and Management spending, a 144.9% gain. Some years saw steeper growth, most notably in 2022 and 2023.

Although care in the Evaluation and Management category was provided throughout the city, most Medicaid payments were concentrated in a few ZIP codes. In 2024, ZIP code 88231 generated $58,593 in claims. That single ZIP code made up 100% of the category’s Medicaid payments in Eunice for the year.

Comparing year-over-year changes, both Evaluation and Management Medicaid payments and all Medicaid claim categories in Eunice posted an 85.6% increase from 2023 to 2024.

According to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, combined federal and state Medicaid spending totaled roughly $871.7 billion in fiscal year 2023, representing about 18% of national health expenditures, a sharp rise from the $613.5 billion recorded in 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This growth amounts to an increase of approximately 40% in several years, spurred largely by expanded enrollment and more widespread health care utilization during and after the pandemic.

Recent federal budget measures during the Trump administration featured major proposals to curtail federal Medicaid funding and modify its structure. The “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” enacted in 2025, is anticipated to reduce federal Medicaid outlays by over $1 trillion in the next decade and introduces provisions like work requirements and expanded cost-sharing. These changes are projected to reduce coverage and funding for some beneficiaries, shift greater costs onto states, and slow the growth of federal Medicaid contributions, while the program continues to serve millions across the U.S.
