Clovis High School’s chapter of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) was recognized for its accomplishments at the New Mexico FCCLA State Conference held from March 29 to April 1 in Albuquerque, according to an April 7 announcement. The chapter earned the NMAA Chapter of the Year award and saw 19 students qualify for national competition.

The recognition highlights the ongoing efforts by Clovis High School students and advisors to develop skills such as budgeting, resume building, creativity, public speaking, teamwork, and mental health awareness through participation in workshops. Students also contributed to a statewide book drive by donating 876 books to Read to Me!, a nonprofit organization.

Two Clovis High School students completed their terms as state officers: Joaquin Sanchez served as President and Jose Llamas-Gallegos as First Vice President. Llamas-Gallegos was re-elected as State President for the next year while Isabel Sanchez was selected as First Vice President. “A’ric inspired students, emphasizing a message of not letting your past define your future,” said organizers about the keynote speaker.

In competitive STAR Events—where members are evaluated on leadership skills and career preparation—36 Clovis students competed at both state and national levels. The school received four bronze placements, twenty-two silver placements, thirteen gold placements, and nineteen qualifiers for nationals in Washington D.C., with medal designations based on event scores.

FCCLA is a national Career and Technical Student Organization focused on Family and Consumer Sciences education since its founding in 1945. It offers resources that help students address personal, work-related, and societal issues affecting families.
