Clovis High School has named Michael Edwards as its new head wrestling coach. Edwards has served as an assistant coach for the Clovis High School wrestling program over the past three years. He will now lead the Wildcats wrestling team.
In addition to his work at Clovis High, Edwards coaches with the ThunderCats, a youth wrestling club in Clovis. He holds a brown belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Professor Daniel Casarez of Silverback Jiu-Jitsu and has coached both amateur and professional MMA fighters for more than two decades.
Edwards’s coaching experience includes working with athletes at various levels, from high school through NCAA Division I programs, as well as elite military personnel and first responders. He previously held positions at New Mexico State University, the University of New Mexico, and the University of North Dakota.
He also worked with the U.S. Army through the Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) program at Fort Bliss, Texas, where he designed training regimens for more than 600 soldiers including Army Rangers and EOD personnel. His military coaching background includes work with several organizations such as the Air Force 27th Special Operations Wing.
Edwards holds a Master of Science in Exercise Science and Health Promotion with a concentration in Sports Psychology from California University of Pennsylvania. He is certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), along with other credentials related to performance training, injury prevention, and mental health support.
Coach Edwards will begin his role immediately as preparations start for the upcoming wrestling season.
