A Roswell teen has been arrested and charged with murder in the shooting death of a local man on a residential street in central Roswell Friday night (Dec. 9).
The 17-year-old boy was arrested Saturday (Dec. 10) and is charged with second-degree murder, tampering with evidence, and unlawful possession of a handgun. He is accused of fatally shooting Angel Brouillette, 27, after the unarmed Brouillette allegedly made threats to shoot the boy and his 14-year-old brother.
The shooting took place Friday around 8:30 p.m. outside the boys’ mother’s house where the boys live in the 400 block of East Albuquerque Street. The investigation by the Roswell Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division determined Brouillette, who had been released from the Chaves County Detention Center a few hours earlier and was drinking from a liquor bottle he was carrying, started talking to the 17-year-old outside the house and followed him into the yard, where he soon began making threats to shoot the two boys. The older teen twice used a gun – once a shotgun and then a handgun – to try to get Brouillette to leave. The younger brother went inside the house and Brouillette eventually left the yard, but while in the street made another threat to shoot the boys. The 17-year-old is accused of firing one shot from the handgun at that time, striking Brouillette in the head. The teen then ran from the scene, at some point tossing the gun away – unable to be located by police later – as he ran.
RPD officers were called to the scene a short time later to check on the man who was lying in the street. He was found to be deceased from a gunshot wound and was identified as Brouillette.
Investigators executed a search warrant at the East Albuquerque Street house Saturday afternoon. While police were there, the 17-year-old approached the house and was taken to the police department to be questioned. Following further investigation, he was held there until an arrest warrant was produced by the case detective and signed by a judge Saturday night. He was then arrested and transported to a juvenile detention facility.
