The City of Roswell annual water, sewer and sanitation rate adjustments as established by city ordinances are scheduled to begin appearing on customers’ bills in November. The annual adjustments, established in city ordinances in 2013 (water and sewer) and 2020 (sanitation), are made to these rates to ensure the city has sufficient revenue to take care of system maintenance.
These adjustments are based on the Consumer Price Index associated with the various utility costs. This year’s water and sewer adjustment is a combined increase of 4.1 percent, while the sanitation adjustment is an increase of 14.6 percent. The water and sewer adjustment translates to different dollar amounts for different customers depending on the customer’s meter size and water usage.
The rate adjustments are normally applied in January or July each year, but the city inadvertently failed to implement the adjustment for water and sewer earlier this year and failed to implement the sanitation adjustment following the adoption of that ordinance in 2020. The city’s failure to make the adjustments earlier did not result in a higher rate than should have been implemented originally. The new rates will be what should have been charged at the beginning of the current fiscal year that began in July. There will not be any retroactive increases affecting customers.
